Shauna MacKinnon, Director
Shauna joined CCPA as the Manitoba director in 2005 but her history with CCPA goes back much further. As a member of Manitoba’s Cho!ces social justice coalition, she was involved in the first alternative federal budget that was developed in partnership with CCPA. She moved on in the mid 90’s working in the areas of community development in Manitoba First Nations communities, mental health, the University of Manitoba Aboriginal Access program and policy and project management for the Manitoba government’s Community and Economic Development Committee of Cabinet before joining CCPA. In her ‘spare time’, Shauna is completing a Phd in interdisciplinary studies at the University of Manitoba with a focus on labour market policy and Aboriginal second chance learners.
Lynne Fernandez, Research Associate and Project Coordinator
Lynne has a Master's in economics from the University of Manitoba, where she discovered that the so-called "dreary science" could actually be very interesting. She has a particular fondness for labour and environmental issues, as well as community economic development, government policy and economic history.
Karen Schlichting, Office Manager
New to CCPA-MB, Karen comes to this office with twenty years of experience working as an artist, community organizer and activist. On her one day a week away from the office you might find her in obscure places with her 3000lb wood-fired bread oven she completed in 2011.
Sarah Cooper, Researcher, Housing and Community Development
Sarah completed a Master of City Planning degree at the University of Manitoba, during which she spent a summer as an intern for the CCPA-MB writing about housing issues. Previously, Sarah worked on anti-racism and anti-sexism programming, and more recently has worked on Indigenous, community and environmental planning. She spends a lot of her spare time running and reading (though not at the same time).
"The CCPA Manitoba has been publishing progressive social and economic research since forming in 1997. We have established a reputation for working in collaboration with the community, conducting research that is relevant to the issues of importance to Manitobans, and presenting viable progressive policy alternatives."
