The New “Three R’s”

An award-winning college program for Inuit youth shows the benefits of a small learning environment and culturally-relevant curriculum

Projects & Initiatives: Education Project

About this Publication

While not an official part of the Government of Nunavut's educational system, Nunavut Sivuniksavut (NS), a unique school located in Ottawa, has become one of the flagship programs serving young Inuit. Murray Angus and Morley Hanson provide an analysis of the school, and its successes that have resulted from its small learning environment and culturally-relevant curriculum.

This chapter is from Our Schools/Our Selves Summer 2011 The Voice of Nunavut: Learning from the Eastern Arctic's education challenges.
